In June 2016 I had the opportunity to participate in the Artists In Residence at the Edgewood Cottage in Blowing Rock, NC. The body of work for this week long exhibition consisted of over 40 pieces. I displayed 30 music themed paintings along with 12 matted and framed drawings from my sketchbook. I was able to paint in this peaceful place during the day as visitors walked through to view the artwork. I learned a tremendous amount about myself as an artist and the creative process as people engaged me in discussion with thought provoking conversation. At the beginning of the week, while talking with visitors, my explanations were long and wordy as I struggled to articulate what my purpose was with this series of paintings, but toward the end of the week after several conversations, I was able to sum up my intention with this body of work in just a few short sentences...."To visually represent sound and movement through line, shape and color." I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of this experience and was fortunate to sell 10 paintings, a few drawings and some prints during the week to make this show well worth the adventure!
